The arrival of Valentine’s Day on the calendar heralds spring and the ‘mating season’ for birds (although crossbills in the Alps already have their young in the nest). The reproductive strategies of birds are varied, from the famous monogamy, or almost monogamy, of swans, to the frenetic polygamy of the ‘it’s complicated’ fighters, to the polyandry of the flounder. We will talk about these and many other reproductive habits on Saturday 15 February at 3.30 p.m. during a walk accompanied by the expert ornithologist Paul Tout.
